The customers requirement was simple, an effective screen from passing ramblers.
We suggested Yew hedging plants at 2.5 metre high and 79 linear metres was carefully planned and planted in just two days. In addition, Elveden Instant Hedge in Native Mix was planted in another area of the property, helping to create a mature garden and privacy that the client craved. Common Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus ‘Rotundifloia’) was chosen for its soft, pale green, fresh look and its even, vigorous growth that provides a year round hedge which reliably screens any new build project. Common Yew (Taxus baccata) was used on the front boundary to add a touch of classic evergreen maturity and sense of time to the development.

A client with a Grade II listed manor house in Buckinghamshire appointed garden designer Caroline Davy, who created a beautiful formal garden.
Practicality Brown Ltd supplied and planted specimen trees, topiary and instant hedging, after winning a competitive tender. Planting included elegant Hornbeam Square Columns, taxus pyramids and a line of Box head Hornbeam trees (Carpinus betulus).

Practicality Brown were commissioned to design and build an elegant topiary garden around the client’s rotunda in a private garden in Kent. We supplied and planted 24 semi mature trees, Instant Hedge and Specimen Topiary; the project required a high level of in-house project management and coordination with other trades on site and the entire design and build programme, from start to handover, was just eight weeks.
Beech Instant Hedge providing maturity on a new development
A new build development in Gloucestershire gained immediate maturity by the installation of Elveden Instant Hedge; we supplied and installed 36 metres Beech Instant Hedge for a construction company at Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
Compared to a traditional size hedge transplants, our unique Elveden Instant Hedge products provides immediate maturity. Beech is good hedge for year round seasonally variable interest; it holds onto its bronze autumnal leaves well throughout winter, thereby providing adequate winter screening, despite being deciduous, in the spring the leaves emerge a bright glossy green. It is a very traditional English hedge and remains one of our best sellers.
52 trucks of Instant Hedging to Stoke
As part of the regeneration of Potteries Way in Stoke, over 1350 linear metres of Elveden Instant Hedge have been supplied by Practicality Brown. Potteries Way regeneration required an impenetrable and established hedge, which could be quickly installed to meet the completion deadlines set upon Stoke City Council. Inspecting the hedges at our Elveden Nursery, Steve Ralphs, Senior Landscape Architect and his colleagues agreed that our Beech Instant Hedge was the most substantial product they had seen. The Beech Instant Hedge selected was typically 1.8 to 2.0 metres high and 60cm deep. Other areas where planted with 1.4 metres high Instant Hedge.
By liaising closely with the landscape contractor, we were able to deliver hedges in multiples loads, two or three times a day, as access and conditions allowed. Favourable comments were received by Steve Ralphs, both from the local residents and from the Councillors. “The impact has been dramatic” says Steve. The regeneration of Potteries Way included a significant amount of site clearance, turf and semi mature tree planting.
