Description
Abies nordmanniana is an impressive tree, which can grow over 30 metres in 30 to 50 years. It grows into a pyramidal shape with horizontally stretching branches. Due to its shape, soft foliage and good needle retention, this tree is commonly used in the UK as a Christmas tree. Its needles are flattened, rounded at the top and often about 3 cm long. They are a dark green in colour and can be whitish underneath. They produce cones that can grow up to 20 cm and turn from a reddish-brown to a dark brown with maturity.
Ideal Conditions: Grows well in most soils, preferring slightly acidic, well-drained soil
Maximum Height: 30 + metres
