Description
Araucaria araucana, is also known as the monkey puzzle tree. It is a stately evergreen tree with distinctive long slender branches densely covered with overlapping spiking dark green leaves. Monkey Puzzle won the Award of Merit in 1980. Mature plants may bear cones on the upper branches. This unusual conifer prefers a moist loamy soil soil in an open site with shelter from cold, drying winds.
