Description
Betula utilis Doorenbos (Himalayan Birch Doorenbos) is a mid-sized birch tree with distinctive creamy white bark.
This birch has a nice regularly shaped crown, with delicate, dark green foliage turn golden yellow in autumn. It also produces yellowy green catkins in spring. The bark of this tree turns whiter as the tree matures.
It is a very versatile tree which is tolerant of most soil types and can be planted effectively as a striking focal point in winter, especially with a backdrop of green conifers.
Betula utilis Jacquemontii Doorenbos is a specific cultivar of Himalayan Birch that has creamier bark when it peels and turns ever whiter as time progresses. Its parent, Betula Utilis Jacquemontii also has a white bark but peels white not cream.
It has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Ideal Conditions: Grows well in most soils, prefers a sunny location
Maximum Height: 6 metres high in 20 years, maturing to 12 metres at 50 years.
