Description
Carpinus betulus or hornbeam are often sold as archways and they are made up of two beautiful hornbeams, carefully cultivated into a stunning archway. These trees grow well in most soils, making it a useful plant for poorer conditions. It has green leaves with a distinctive corrugated surface, which turn a golden-yellow in autumn and tend to remain on the tree all winter before falling. This tree was first introduced to Britain about a century ago and has proved itself to be very hardy.
This tree is very adaptable, as well as elegant arches, it is available as a standard clear stem tree, a formal boxhead tree, pleached, hedging elements and instant hedge.
