Description
Elaeagnus ebbingei is also now listed with its newly updated name Elaeagnus x submacrophylla. It is a pretty small evergreen tree that is highly regarded for its sweet fragrance and tiny bell-shaped white flowers from October to November. It also bears small orange berries in the winter. The leaves are grey / green in colour with brownish scales and silvery undersides. Also known as Ebbinge’s silverberry. Native to Asia these are now widely grown as ornamentals.
With its upright, compact, and dense growth, this Oleaster makes a good boundary plant in a small garden. It is particularly valuable in coastal locations, as it is salt tolerant. Available in standard and variegated options.
Elaeagnus ebbingei enjoy full sun but are also shade tolerant. They are tough plants which will thrive in a range of soil types and with rarely any maintenance issues and you can expect a plant to reach around 5m tall and 5m wide.
