Euonymus alatus (Winged spindle tree)

Description

Euonymus alatus has a spreading habit. Also known as the winged spindle tree often develops conspicuous corky wings. It has small greenish flowers in the spring. The green, ovate, finely toothed leaves turn brilliant red accompanied by purple seed pods, cracking open to reveal bright orange seeds. A great small tree for autumn interest, Euonymus alatus is hardy and particularly good on alkaline soils.
