Description
Ligustrum japonicum is also known as Japanese privet or wax leaf privet it is a compact, small sized evergreen tree with dark green oval leaf shaped foliage around 10cm long. It bears conical sprays of small scented white flowers from mid summer to early autumn, followed by small round black berries.
Japanese privet originate from central and southern Japan and Korea but are now widely used as plants and trees in European landscapes.
The growth habit is tall and upright with around 20-30cm of growth per year. They make excellent evergreen screening plants.
Ligustrum japonicum prefer full sun and partial shade and are a commonly used ornamental valued for evergreen leaves and white flowers.

Ligustrum japonicum is an ideal tree for evergreen garden screening and is a tough performing species that will thrive on most soils, although it is best to avoid very water logged areas. They prefer the soil to be moist and well drained.
