Description
Magnolia grandiflora ‘Gallisoniensis’ produces beautiful, large, white flowers in the summer, which can be up to 25 cm in diameter. As well as decorating this stunning tree they also create a sweet-citrus smelling aroma. It has large, ovoid leaves which are dark green and leathery on top, with a coppery, almost-furry underside. It has young shoots that are reddish, that change to a greyish brown at maturity.
As well as an attractive specimen tree, the dense shoots and large leaves, make Magnolia grandiflora great for screening and creating garden privacy.
What is a pleached tree?
A pleached tree has a single clear stem and a crown of branches that have been trained horizontally on a supporting frame. Frames can be made of wood, metal or bamboo. Generally pleached trees are planted in a row and can create a continuous narrow screen, or like a hedge on stilts. They are low maintenance as the branches are already trained onto a frame work. Just once or twice a year they can be pruned and any new growth tucked in or tied in. Magnolia grandiflora ‘Gallisoniensis’ make stunning pleached trees. The main benefit of any pleached tree is the immediate impact on the structure and framework of the garden
