Description
Magnolia stellata or the star magnolia is a charming, slow-growing magnolia forming a compact rounded specimen, making it ideal for small gardens.
It produces a mass of stunning, bright white, star-shaped flowers opening from silky buds quite early in spring. The gently scented, unusually-shaped flowers are up to 10cm across and contain up to 18 petals and usually bloom in March to April before giving way to lush, mid-green leaves. Buds are sensitive to frost and morning sun.
Magnolia stellata grows best in moist but well-drained soil, in full sun or part shade but will need shelter from cold winds.
