Description
Magnolia x soulangeana or the saucer magnolia is a spreading deciduous tree which can grow up to 6m tall and is known for its stunning fragrant display of early spring blossoms, often the earliest, and showiest to flower, of all the Magnolias.
The goblet-shaped flowers are pink with white interiors are up to 25cm across, followed later by lush dark green summertime leathery leaves, which contrast to silvery-grey bark.
Magnolia x soulangeana grows best in moist but well-drained soil, in full sun or part shade but will need shelter from cold winds. It is best allowed the space to grow and develop as it can reach considerable width with age.
