Description
This flowering Cherry is one of the most popular. The Kanzan Cherry is native to Japan, China and Korea and is a very popular variety that is widely planted. This exquisite tree produces an abundance of frothy light pink, densely filled blossom, which flower from deep red buds in May. As a young tree it is vase-shaped, with the spread widening with age. The large leaves appear red at first, and slightly darken before becoming a radiant green by summer.
This beautiful double flowering cherry will give a display of glorious flower each spring, while the autumn foliage turns a coppery-yellow before falling. This flowering ornamental cherry tree is good for introducing colour to gardens, where space allows.
Prunus ‘Kanzan’ is the most popular Japanese cherry tree cultivar for cherry blossom in Europe and North America.
The RHS has given this tree an Award of Merit.
