Description
Prunus yedoensis originated in Japan and is found in profusion around the capital Tokyo.
Yoshino Cherry is one of the most beautiful cherries. It is an elegant, medium-sized tree which is covered with small, pink-white flowers from April onwards. They hang in clusters of 5 or 6 and have a subtle almond fragrance.
The leaves of the Prunus yedoensis emerge a coppery colour towards the end of the flowers which create a beautiful contrast to the shiny, black fruits. They are serrated on the margins and deep green in colour turning to red-orange in Autumn.
It is a very beautiful ornamental tree for gardens and parks. It is also very suitable as street tree.
Ideal Conditions: Grows well in almost all well-drained soils
Maximum Height: 12 metres
