Description
The Scarlet Oak is a substantial deciduous tree, ultimately to 24m in height. Its large shiny leaves are bright green above, paler beneath. It produces stunning flaming red autumn colour, which is long lasting. In the spring, there are yellow-green catkins and later acorns are partly enclosed in a deep, thin-edged cup. Quercus coccinea performs best on a dry, sandy soils.
