Description
Salix alba is a native White Willow tree that is ideal for river and pond side planting. It is a big tree but responds well to pollarding. It produces catkins in April and May which are pleasantly fragrant. A good tree for binding the soil in flood prone areas and also a good wind barrier.
Ideal conditions – Sun to light shade. At home in moist soils but also thrives in drier locations. Good near the coast as it is salt tolerant.
