Description
Viburnum tinus ‘Lucidum’ originates from south of Europe. It grows into a large shrub with dark green, shiny leaves. These can be up to 10 cm in length and 4 cm wide and are ovate with a pointed end. It is vigorous tree growing around 20cm a year but responds well to pruning. Best pruned once the flowering has finished.
A great ornamental, decorative tree with the benefit of seasonally attractive flowers and berries.
It grows into a dense, bushy and rounded habit and produces small fragrant white, fragrant flowers in late winter, which stay in bloom until mid-spring. This tree also produces small, bluish-black berries in autumn.
Viburnum tinus can also be known as laurustinus, laurustine or laurestine and the common names are due to the leaves being similar to the bay laurel.
Viburnum tinus ‘Lucidum‘ is known for attracting bees and birds. It has nectar/pollen rich flowers, provides shelter and habitat and has seeds for birds.
The RHS has given this tree an Award of Merit.

Standard forms are perfect as feature trees in large planters or beds. Ideal Conditions: Grows well in most conditions prefers an open position.
