Wood Chips for Fuel
Testimonial
Civil Engineers, Redhill
Thank for the way you and your people approached the initial site clearance work. The short lead-in period and demanding programme was planned with care and executed with real energy. Your response to an early safety issue also deserves credit. Well done, I look forward to similar success during the rest of the project.
Wood Fuel Suppliers
We offer customised energy service contracts covering fuel supply and maintenance appropriate to each client’s circumstances and requirements:
- Long Term Wood Chip Fuel Supply Contracts
- Energy Metered Fuel Supply Agreements
We believe that for many heat users, Energy Metered Supply Agreements are the most convenient and equitable way to use and pay for wood chip fuel by the use of a Heat Energy Meter (MCS approved). With this arrangement the customer pays for the heat energy used every month, at an agreed figure per Kwh.
Our Clients
Our clients
We pride ourselves on building long term relationships with small or medium-sized enterprises (SME) and a broad spectrum of Government agencies, supplying small to medium size boiler installations with an annual heating requirement between 150Kwh – 3,000Kwh (approximately 100 – 2000 tonnes). These enterprises include:
- Schools / Academic establishments
- Hospital / Primary Care Trusts
- Commercial offices, Local Authority and Government buildings
- Large retail outlets
- Hotels, Leisure Centres and Health Clubs
- Community heating projects
- Country Houses and Rural Developments
Quality Control
Quality Control
Consistency in fuel chip is vital, in terms of size, moisture content and free of contaminates (foreign matter etc.), as it ensure the efficiency of burning and therefore the heat levels. Practicality Brown has invested heavily in rigorous quality control systems, which includes grading equipment, storage and moisture control to ensure a consistent quality of fuel. This dedicated approach ensures our wood chip meets the Woodsure accreditation standards.
Typically we offer G30 or G50 grades of virgin wood chip, which has a moisture content of between 25% to 35%. This wood chip fuel conforms to ONORM M7, Din 66-165 and BSEN. It is also BSL and RHI compliant.
Delivery
Delivery
Our wood chip stock is sourced from one of our core businesses, i.e. no burn forestry clearance. As a result, all our wood fuel products are produced from virgin clean timber guaranteeing emission requirements in controlled areas and ensuring that the clean wood ash can be either used as fertiliser or disposed of in the normal waste stream. This comparatively high stock level enables Practicality Brown to guarantee fuel availability throughout the year, especially in the peak winter months. Our strong logistical partnership ensures that we deliver what our customers want, where and when they want it, throughout the South East of England.
Environmental discussion
Environmental discussion
Climate change is permanently on the political agenda, both National and Internationally. The world’s future energy consumption and the reduction of emissions concern and affect us all as individuals and businesses. Increasingly, companies are under pressure to recognise and accept their moral and social economic responsibilities within the community and wider global society.
The United Nations conference on climate change in Paris (December 2015) have committed member countries to act together to combat climate change and be held equally accountable, which marks a clear turning point towards a sustainable and low carbon future.
The use of biomass as a source of renewable energy is one of the few proven, cost-effective and available technologies that can have an immediate impact on the reduction of CO2 emissions. Biomass is a form of stored solar energy and of all the possible renewable heating solutions, it has the potential to deliver some of the most significant and cost-effective carbon savings.
Whilst burning biomass releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, this is offset by the carbon dioxide absorbed in the sustained growth of the biomass crop. The production of wood chip fuel encourages and increases management of redundant woodland, which in turn has beneficial effects on the national biodiversity of forests and woodland areas throughout the Country.
Accreditations
Practicality Brown’s associated company Fuel Chip Ltd has achieved Woodsure Accreditation, the UK’s only woodfuel quality assurance scheme which means we supply reliable, high-quality wood fuels. We are listed on the Government’s official Biomass Suppliers List and are members of Wood Heat Association
Whole Tree Mulches
Practicality Brown is a supplier of consistent whole tree mulches and our Mastermulch is an economic alternative to bark mulches. A 50 -75mm layer provides long term weed suppression, whilst enhancing the soil’s moisture retaining properties.
